“In accordance with the directives of the Prime Minister’s Office and the National Security Advisory regarding the observance of the International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism as it Conducive to Terrorism, the College of Law organized a scientific workshop on Wednesday morning, February 18, 2026. Coinciding with the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, the workshop was titled: ‘The Role of Universities and Religious Institutions in Combating Extremism.’

The event featured active participation from Sheikh Abdul Hakim Al-Badrani, representative of the Counter-Terrorism Directorate in Nineveh; Monk Wissam Marzina Kero of the Order of the Brothers of Jesus the Redeemer; and Sheikh Omar Elias Ali, Chairman of the Yazidi Social Council in Bashiqa.

The speakers emphasized in their academic and religious presentations the necessity of consolidating the values of peaceful coexistence and rejecting hate speech, drawing inspiration from the spiritual atmosphere of Ramadan to promote tolerance and national unity. Furthermore, the workshop highlighted the pivotal role of educational institutions and spiritual leaders in safeguarding society and deconstructing extremist ideologies. The participants concluded that the cultural and religious diversity of the Nineveh Plains constitutes a fundamental pillar for social stability and the building of a secure future rooted in dialogue and the acceptance of the ‘Other’.”
