In commemoration of the National Mass Graves Day, and in continuation of the college’s scientific and awareness activities, the College of Law organized a scientific workshop entitled “Mass Graves: Legal and Humanitarian Dimensions,” delivered by Assistant Lecturer Dilshad Mohammed Zra.
The workshop addressed several detailed axes, focusing on the legal characterization of mass grave crimes in light of international criminal law and the Iraqi Penal Code, as well as the mechanisms followed in opening and documenting these graves to preserve the rights of victims legally and historically. Furthermore, the lecturer touched upon the humanitarian and social repercussions of these crimes, emphasizing the need for concerted academic and legal efforts to support community awareness and assist the institutions concerned with the transitional justice file.
At the conclusion of the workshop, the floor was opened for discussion and interventions from the attending faculty members and students, who enriched the topic with their legal views and inquiries.
